About Us
Who We Are
Founded by Martin Laflamme in 2008, Martin is an avid IT entrepreneur and an expert in IT Security providing consulting services for government agencies and the military. Today, Martin focuses his attention on his most valued project: Bid On A Star.
The Mission
Bid On A Star's primary mission is to bring together fans and their favorite Stars, at a private event, by means of winning a bidding process. Its main secondary mission is to help finance various charities/projects as a result of its success of its primary mission.
The majority of the funds raised through the bidding process goes to the Star and their favorite charity. This creates a win-win situation. Fans get to meet their Celebrity up close and personal. The Celebrity's favorite charity raises revenue for their activities. Bid On A Star retains only a very small slice of the revenue from the winning bids that get utilized for advertising, marketing, salaries and other projects.
The Star
Stars or their agents may register with us by sending us an e-mail. They can then log in and provide parameters for a bidding event. The Star (or Agent) may provide information such as the minimum amount required, create the number of auctions for the event (this is explained further below), the date of the event, the type of event and the city for the event. The exact location is not disclosed to anyone except the winners of the Bid process.
Bid On A Star may provide full logistics for the Event therefore alleviating any coordination issues and will take care of the Event's expenses. Bid On A Star maintains utmost discretion regarding all matters relating the Stars or their Agents.
The Bidders / Fans
Anyone who wishes to bid for time with their favorite star can freely register on our site and start bidding. For example, a Star may state they wish to raise a minimum of $20,000 and have a maximum of 10 auctions for their event. This means that up to 10 bidders could each bid $2,000 meaning 10 people will attend the event. If someone wishes to outbid someone else, they could bid $2,100 (the system will select the last person who bid $2,000 for the outbid). Should a bidder wish to reduce the amount of people attending the event, that person could bid, for example, for 6 auctions for a total of $12,000. This would reduce the number of attendees to 5 (4 bidders at $2,000 each and 1 bidder at $12,000). Someone could simply buy out the 10 auctions for the "Buy It Now" price to guarantee that they will be the only person able to attend the event.
Bidders are responsible for their transportation to the Event (except under special circumstances) and any lodging that may be required. Therefore, if a Star's event occurs in downtown Los Angeles but the Bidder lives in Miami, Florida, it is the Bidder's responsibility to get to the Event via their own means.
Following a winning Bid, the Bidder has two weeks for payment. Should the payment not be received within this timeframe, the Bidder forfeits their spot and must pay 25% of their bid as a penalty. The next best Bidder has the opportunity to attend the event by submitting a payment within two weeks.
